IS THIS FOLKPUNK?

So my friend Sören and me made a 72-minute documentary film titled IS THIS FOLKPUNK? about Nuremberg's vibrant folk punk music scene, with its connections to all over the world. A mix of live music snippets, interviews and tour material our film features such amazing musicians as Efa Supertramp, Vraket, James Bar Bowen, Mäkkelä, Egotherapie, John Steam Jr, Chris Padera, Karin Rabhansl, Last Boys Left, Gold Rushian, Reverend Reefer and more. It is about the music as well as the philosophies and politics behind what we do, about DIY and community. Sums it up nicely

I don't know much about Brian Eno, nor did he influence me in any way creatively (not that I know of). But I love this particular Briano Eno quote. Recently found it again to describe to a friend what I am looking for in sound mixing and arrangements:

“Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit - all of these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar sound is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them.”
